2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Review

More than 20 years ago, it was a new concept. Five generations later, it's better than ever. But what's even better? How about the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Crossover SUV from Toyota of Brookfield. Now more improved, with greater capabilities and features, and efficiency, it's a better value than ever.

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a five-passenger compact crossover SUV that is a capable vehicle whether it lives in the city or the suburbs. Toyota's best-selling vehicle in the U.S., and the best-selling non-pickup truck in the country, it was a game-changer then, now made more vibrant by the addition of a Hybrid powerplant.  The new RAV4 Hybrid has essentially recreated the market in which it resides. Now the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is on a mission to bring the Sport and Utility back to the SUV.

The new RAV4 Hybrid has increased performance, and even on-demand all-wheel-drive, which still work together with the stated goal of reducing fuel consumption. And the RAV4 Hybrid includes more safety than ever before with the inclusion of the new Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0), along with the addition of a new Entune Multimedia suite.

The new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is available as the LE HV, XLE HV, XSE HV and Limited HV. It looks like the new RAV4 Hybrid is ready to change the game again.

Chiseled and more sophisticated than ever, the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid features new elegant sculpting to go with a dynamic profile that looks good from every angle. There's also a brawnier stance that reinforces the RAV4 with a new "take no prisoners" attitude.

That attitude comes from an SUV that is totally new from the ground up. Using the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) as its platform, the RAV4 Hybrid includes a new longer wheelbase and wider front and rear track giving it a new aggressive Tundra-style stance. Shorter front and rear overhangs aid with the RAV4's trail driving capabilities. With a short angle of attack and angle of departure, the RAV4 Hybrid is able to go up and down hills like nobody's business.New 2019 RAV4 Interior

The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, is powered in two stages. This Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) uses a 176 horsepower 2.5-liter Dynamic Force Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine at its foundation. Producing 163 lb-ft of torque, it then sends the powertrain's torque to the electronically-controlled, continuously-variable transmission (ECVT). The EPA estimates it is capable of 41 mpg city/ 37 mpg highway/39 mpg combined, making it the most fuel efficient vehicle in the whole lineup.

The RAV4 Hybrid is standard with an electronic, on-demand all-wheel-drive system with intelligence (AWD-i). When combined with the electric motors, the system yields a net of 219 horsepower. Simply, a small, high-torque electric motor drives the front wheels through its unique transaxle. When sensors detect slippage, the system engages the rear, on-demand electric motor for added traction.

The Hybrid system varies or combines the power between the gas engine and electric motor seamlessly. Regenerative braking converts the electric motor to a generator to reclaim the kinetic energy of the still-turning wheels, when the brakes are applied, sending regenerated energy back to the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) Hybrid battery pack. The result of all the technology is that you have an SUV that thinks it might actually be a sports car.

Part of that handling can be attributed to the independent front suspension comprised of MacPherson struts with a stabilizer bar and hydraulic shocks in front and the trailing wishbone-style multi-link rear suspension and the rack-mounted rack and pinion Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Fully loaded for safety, the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid from Toyota of Brookfield includes as standard, the newest version of Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0) with a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w PD), which can automatically apply brakes when necessary. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, (LDA /SA), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and Automatic High Beams (AHB) are also in the mix and work seamlessly within the Toyota RAV4.

The Toyota RAV4 from Toyota of Brookfield includes other sophisticated safety features like Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB) is standard on XLE grade and above, and optional for the LE model. Eight airbags, along with a backup camera with projected path and enhanced vehicle stability control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD).
