New 2019 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck Review

TOYOTA TACOMA AT TOYOTA OF BROOKFIELD

It's easy to see why the New Toyota Tacoma Pickup is so popular and has led its segment for 12 years. And it's not content to rest on its laurels, either. New for this year is the blacked-out SX Package and updated TRD Pro Package that bring the total number of variations to 32.

Wha? What, you ask? That's right. With a series of combinations, Tacoma buyers can configure their new pick-up truck in 32 different configurations. Take the new Tacoma SX for example. Wrapped around a stylish truck that's light on the wallet, it's an affordable model with an alluring blacked-out appearance package that includes black 16-inch alloy wheels, mirror caps, handles, grilles and more. The Tacoma SX can serve as a starting point for any number of modifications that will personalize your new Toyota Tacoma just the way you want.

There are two available cab types ranging from the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab. There's also 2x4 and 4x4 driveline configurations. Trim levels include SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Toyota Tacoma Interior

The Tacoma is one tough hombre, too. By opting for the Tacoma TRD Pro, you'll have a compelling reason for going off the beaten path. Start with 2.5-inch Fox Internal Bypass shocks on all four corners. Add an available TRD Desert Air Intake for cleaner airflow to the engine, even in the dustiest conditions. There's even a standard moonroof and JBL Premium Audio (on automatic transmission models only).

A SAFER WAY

The Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) offers an active safety system that is now standard on every single Tacoma trim level. TSS-P outfits the Tacoma with a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams, and High Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

POWERFUL PRESENCE

In addition to its tough safety bona fides, the new Toyota Tacoma is tough under the hood, as well. Powered by a base 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder with variable valve timing with intelligence that produces 159-horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. But if that is simply not enough for your needs, opt for the more powerful 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 engine featuring VVT-iW technology. Using both direct and port fuel injection, this engine makes 278-horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines are standard with the six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). If you like to row it yourself or have special needs that work better with a manual transmission, you may opt for Toyota's six-speed manual transmission. With the optional factory-installed towing package, the new Tacoma is capable of towing up to 6,800 pounds

BUT HOW DOES IT LOOK?

All this brawn with no beauty just won't do.

To that end, the Tacoma is equipped with an angular and chiseled face with a bold, hexagonal grille and equally bold hood. Projection beam headlights with available LED daytime running lights help to define the front end while at the rear, the Tacoma's tailgate has an easy lower feature allowing it to retract without slamming down.

On the inside, soft-wrapped trim and metallic accents offer a high-quality feel throughout. All Tacoma trucks offer driver adjustable lumbar support and four-way adjustable front seats. Fabric-trimmed, leather trimmed or full leather seating is available depending on trim level. But it can get downright luxurious with available Qi wireless charging, smart key with push button start, a power tilt/slide moonroof and other features including Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
